One of the first things a scout cooks is usually the breakfast staple pancakes and sausage. This ScoutmasterDave video takes you through the process of cooking pancakes on a two-burner stove.

Transcript:

I’m Scoutmaster Dave and today we are going to make some pancakes. Pancakes are one of the first things scouts make.

But even though pancakes are easy, it is also very easy to burn the pancakes.if you don’t know how to use a camp stove.

So what we have today is your standard Coleman propane stove.

And i’ve turned the stove on where both sides are heating up now for pancakes is important to have the grill which you are using be warm when you put them on.
Otherwise pancakes never get past the sort of yellow state and don’t become a brown pancake.

Today we are going to take our pancake batter all mixed up I like the batter a little bit thinner it gives me a little more time to maneuver around.

Both sides are going to be nice and warm, and scouts try to put on four pancakes across, which logically makes sense

Unfortunately, it’s not where the heat is. The heat is on the left and on the right

So the center never really gets warm. Now you can use that to your advantage.

What I like to do with younger scouts is to turn off the right hand side.

So this side is completely off. So it’s easier to manipulate and practice and keep those pancakes warm as they are creating a whole stack for the patrol.

So what you end up with is a lot of heat over here, and this side is just warm. The great thing about this is when you are done with the pancake you can put it on the right hand side.

It still stays warm while you are making all the pancakes. Because scouts are not all that good, especially at first at making pancakes.

And what you end up with is a scouts that have cold pancakes.

What I’m going to do not is take my batter.

as you see because the girls nice and hot it starting to sizzle up

and we’re going to give that a minute or two to to cook up one side

now you see the bubbles out of form that’s really what you’re looking for you see and tell this bill was nice and father is a very pop so for the scouts [Music] so I’m gonna just lower this just slight

you can check it you see that’s nice and one side there

because they’re fed they cook really quickly

[Music]

and you can see immediately because the grill is nice and five on the left-hand side now you start to get bubbles almost immediately

and you can see the bubble pattern that you getting is really where that heat is so you’re getting less bubbles on the left-hand side and more bubbles right in the middle over here so now as I mentioned the left side is nice and hot but this sign is relatively cool so if you put your hand here you can really feel the heat but it’s not

and that will stay nice and warm

sit down to control all the tactics

now this is also true if you’re making sausage or something to go along with it that if you heat your sausage you keep it on the warm side and you cover it with a little aluminum foil that will stay nice and warm while you’re heating up your other ingredients for today those hash browns that kind of stuff as well those nice bubbles on there and that tells that that’s right
